Milan, April 2024. Stripes. Rayures. Stripes. So many different names for a single graphic element, multifaceted and essential, capable of uniting the worlds of design and fashion under the banner of an iconic sense of movement and fluidity that becomes style. The recognisable one of Martino Midali, who has made the primary essence of the stripe his own, making it an essential element of his iconography, alongside that of Nap Atelier, whose philosophy has always been aimed at breaking classic furnishing patterns with the complicity of striped patterns mixed in an unprecedented way. The dialogue between the two aesthetic codes has given rise to Copyright Riga, an installation hosted in the windows of Martino Midali's boutique in Via Mercato 6 on the occasion of Design Week, scheduled from 14 to 21 April in Milan. An event designed to explore the intersection between fashion and design using stripes as a central element to highlight their versatility and ability to transform both clothes and environments into dynamic works of art.
The stripe is the exact measure of the style of Martino Midali, who has made it a key protagonist of his collections, eviscerating its ability to give movement. Eclectic and irreverent, its very nature has allowed Nap Atelier to place it at the centre of a series of furnishing accessories - consoles, tables and coffee tables - and design objects striped and handmade - lamps, cushions, fabrics, home accessories - in dialogue with the brand's women's creations. All of this in an equally emblematic combination of black and white, which has created a high-impact, heterogeneous and bohemian ambience, under the banner of the stripe reinterpreted in an innovative and modern way and perfect in all its variations.
"Stripes are a powerful tool of expression that can transform spaces and clothes into dynamic and meaningful works of art: their versatility and visual impact make them fascinating to explore as part of Design Week for an extraordinary aesthetic experience that combines fashion and design." This is what Martino Midali and Stefania Passera said on the sidelines of the partnership.
As a corollary of the collaboration, a special customised Copyright Riga shopping bag was created, part of the proceeds of which will go to support the activities of SVS Donna Aiuta Donna (SVS DAD), an anti-violence centre that helps and supports women to get out of violence.
SVS DAD is part of the Anti-Violence Network of the Municipality of Milan to prevent and combat violence against women. It offers victims a listening ear, welcome, legal advice and assistance, employment guidance, and psychological support. It also provides training, information and awareness-raising for the prevention of the phenomenon. The president of SVS DAD is Alessandra Kustermann, who created the first public anti-violence centre in Italy, opened in 1996 at the Mangiagalli Clinic of the Policlinico di Milano.
